We have two thriving choirs in the Junior and Senior school which are open to any boy who enjoys singing. The choirs perform regularly in school concerts and at local events and have been an integral part of the two school CDs, ‘Maroon Magic’ and ‘Stars in Stripes. We are currently working towards the ‘Young Voices’ event which takes place at the O2 Arena, in January. We have been on five tours to Europe – the first was to Paris in 2002 where the highlight was a performance on stage at EuroDisney, and then to Valkenburg in South Holland in 2004 where the boys performed in a traditional bandstand and a plaza at the border of Holland, Germany and Belgium. In July 2006 we went to Barcelona where the choir performed at seafront venues in Tossa del Mar and Lloret del Mar, and went to the Black Forest in Germany in July 2008 where we took part in a local folk festival. Most recently we went to The Rhineland in July 2010 and we are currently in the early stages of planning our trip to New York in July 2012.
We have a very experienced team of 13 peripatetic teachers who offer tuition in Piano and Keyboard, Voice, Woodwind, Strings, Brass, Classical and Electric Guitar and Drums. Where appropriate, the boys are prepared to take Associated Board music exams. The peripatetic staff also run a Wind Band, Junior and Senior Guitar Ensembles, a String Quartet and an Electric Guitar workshop and these ensembles also perform regularly. Although all the extra-curricular activities are totally voluntary, over 160 music lessons are taught each week which shows the great commitment of the boys to musical activities. Throughout the school, 70% of the boys are involved in extra curricular music.
