Thorpe House School has a very active Parents' Association. The two aims of the Association are to arrange events through which parents and families can get to know one another in a social situation and to raise additional funds for the schools to provide for special items which might not necessarily be funded through fee income.
Each class in the school has a class rep, whose function is to arrange social events for parents in the class and to spread news of, and gain volunteers to help at, special events that take place during the year. These class reps become members of the Parents' Association committee and are joined by the current officers.
Every year the committee arrange three different Christmas events for boys of different ages, a Summer Fair which is the main fund-raising event of the year, a Quiz Night for parents and a number of other events which vary from year to year. Every four or five years they put on a Summer Ball in a Marquee at Thorpe House Playing Fields.
Most years the Parents' Association raise in the region of £15,000 for the schools. In the most recent years this has been spent on a major refurbishment of the school swimming pool which has cost around £40,000. Previously, PA funds have been spent on providing a minibus, a sound system and stage lights, a climbing frame at Thorpe House, playground equipment and class garden areas at the Kingscote site and interactive white boards at both sites. Every year there is a book grant to each class teacher to enhance the class library in the way that he or she sees fit.
Although a Parents' Association rather than a PTA, the Headmaster and Deputy Head of Thorpe House and the Head and Deputy Head of the Pre-Prep attend committee meetings and take an active role in making the Association an integral part of school life.
The current Officers of the Association are:
Chairperson: Simi Dubb Treasurer: David Sharp
