Welcome to Thorpe House Nursery!
Nursery is a happy and busy place where our boys thrive in a nurturing and fun learning environment. We work hard to develop curiosity, independence and a joy of learning in all our boys and we pride ourselves in a holistic and individual approach to all the boys in our care.
Our days start with free choice play and art and every morning there are on average two teacher-led activities which include weekly cooking sessions, kitchen science and phonics. Boys learn from hands-on and real life experiences and we provide a balance between child-initiated and teacher-led activities in a prepared and stimulating environment that enables them to make independent choices. We strongly believe that happy and confident children make good learners! We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) although the elements of Montessori Pedagogy are visibly present in our everyday practice.
Our parents are actively involved in Nursery life; they are invited to talk to the boys about family life, cultures, customs, jobs they do and any other special interest and talents they might have. We practice an open door policy and are proud of the warm partnership we have with all our parents.
The boys benefit from school trips and in-house visits; they enjoy weekly music sessions with a specialist teacher and happily join in with the School Celebration Assembly held on Fridays.
The Nursery day begins at 8.20am and there is an option for the boys to attend morning only sessions until 11.45am or they can choose full day sessions which finish at 3pm.
To find out what makes us special and our boys such happy learners come and visit us! A visit can be arranged by calling our school Registrar on 01753 882 474, but in the meantime you can visit our school Facebook page and the Nursery news section of the website to find out what we get up to during the Nursery day.
