Thorpe House Nursery is a happy and busy place where boys play, learn and have fun. The boys benefit from a bright and airy classroom as well as from the outside learning area, adventure playground and the spacious field.
We follow Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) although the elements of Montessori Pedagogy are visibly present in our everyday practice.
Our days start with free choice play and daily art. Every morning there are on average two teacher-led activities including weekly cooking sessions, kitchen science and phonics. Boys learn from hands-on and real life experiences. We provide a balance between child-initiated and teacher-led activities in a prepared and stimulating environment that enables boys to make independent choices. We strongly believe that happy and confident children make good learners
Parents are actively involved in the Nursery Life. They are invited to talk to the boys about family life, cultures, customs, jobs they do and any other special interest and talents they might have. We practice an open door policy and are proud of the warm partnership we have with all our parents.
The boys benefit from school trips and in-house visits. They have weekly music sessions with a specialist teacher and happily join in with School Celebration Assembly every Friday.
Nursery day starts at 8.20 and there is an option for the boys to attend morning only sessions till 11.45 or full day sessions till 3pm.
We work hard to develop curiosity, independence and a joy of learning in all our boys and pride ourselves in a holistic and individual approach to all children in our care.
