Entry points to the schools are generally at ages 3, 4, 7, 11 and 13.
At age 3 a total of 21 boys enter the Nursery
At age 4 a further 15 boys are admitted to Reception
At age 7 a few places become available in Year 3 to fill spaces vacated by boys
who have not come through to the Junior School from the Pre-Prep (generally up to 6 places)
At age 11 places become available in Year 7 to fill spaces vacated by boys who
have gone on to Grammar School
At age 13 a few places sometimes become available if any boys have moved onto Public schools
Places become available at other ages if people move away
At all ages places are allocated according to position on the waiting list subject to passing an entry assessment. The waiting list is in order of registrations received so it is strongly recommended that parents should return a registration form (with £50 fee) at the earliest opportunity if they wish their son to be considered for entry. Some lists fill up more than two years before entry. A form is included in the propsectus pack, but may also be downloaded by clicking here or obtained from Mrs Joanna Tyler, the school registrar, at email@example.com.
The entry assessment is not competitive. In the Pre-Prep years the boys are asked to spend a short time in the school and are assessed on basic skills and sociability. From age 7 and above it takes the form of a basic test of skills in English, Mathematics and Reading. From age 11 and over there is also a test of Science and Reasoning skills.
For entry into Year 8 and above, anyone on the waiting list who has taken the Bucks 11+ test and scored 110 or more will automatically pass the assessment. Those who have scored below 110 will need to be able to demonstrate at assessment the capability to cope with an academic course leading up to GCSE. In all cases boys are still asked to sit the assessment tasks to help us with setting decisions.
At any age, once the offer of a place has been made by the school, parents confirm acceptance by payment of a depositof £750. £350 of this deposit is offset against the first term's fees and the remaining £400 is held by the school and refunded against the boy's final bill when he leaves.
